Many of the body's functions slow down when there is a low level of the hormone thyroxine present. The most common symptoms include:
tiredness
- weight gain
- constipation
- lifeless hair
- fluid retention
- mental slowing
- aches
- feeling cold
- dry skin
- depression
- a hoarse voice
- heavy menstrual periods, or irregular periods
- infertility
- loss of libido (sex drive)
- pain and numbness in the hands (carpal tunnel syndrome)
- memory loss (more so in the elderly)
